Easy Fried Oyster Mushrooms

These easy and quick fried Oyster Mushrooms are packed with flavour and taste and I’m sure it’ll be one of your favourite dishes in no time.

Mushrooms are a delicious addition in your diet and best thing is it’s vegetarian and vegan friendly as well. Oyster mushrooms have always been my favourite since childhood. I’ve loved the meaty chewy texture and the soft delicate earthy flavour of Oyster mushrooms.

I remember, in my paternal grandparents house, in a village call Fatakata in BTC, Assam; these Oyster Mushrooms were cultivated and harvested in abundance. A pure organic produce with the paddy straws and cow manure. I must say that those Oyster Mushrooms were big and wonderful and delicious in every aspect.

Oyster Mushrooms are abundant in my hometown which is organically grown and is much cheaper in rate compared to the big supermarkets in the city that is selling a small 200gms of packet in exorbitant price. Nevertheless, I couldn’t get my hands off from this delicious mushrooms whenever I see it.

Oyster mushrooms are loaded with fiber, vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients. They’re also low in carbohydrates and a good source of antioxidants. It may also promote heart health by reducing heart disease risk factors like high cholesterol and high blood pressure. So include Oyster Mushrooms in your diet and avail the maximum benefits of these wonder food.

Oyster mushrooms are simple to cook, you can add to stews and soups, stir-frys, and sauces, add it in fried rice or noodles and pizza toppings as well. The subtle taste also makes them a great side dish.

Here, I’m following my mother’s recipe where she simply fries the mushrooms in mustard oil along with ginger garlic paste, green chillies, cumin, turmeric and crushed black pepper. The result is simply delicious and goes perfect with rice.

Oyster mushrooms have enough water on its own and while frying it, adding water has to be avoided unless it’s added in stews and soups.

Unlike common Button mushrooms or Portobello mushrooms, Oyster Mushrooms are delicate in texture. It has to be washed carefully and patted dry before dipping in the batter and deep fried or simply shred or tear it with hand and then stir fried.

Ingredients: (serves 3-4)

▪️ 200 gms Oyster Mushrooms

▪️ 1 small onion sliced

▪️1-2 green chilies

▪️ 5-6 garlic cloves crushed & chopped

▪️ 1/4 inch ginger crushed & chopped

▪️1/2 tsp cumin powder

▪️1/4 tsp turmeric powder

▪️1 tsp crushed peppercorns

▪️Salt to taste

▪️ 1 tbsp Oil for frying

▪️ Chopped coriander leaves

▪️Chopped green onions

Instructions:

Gently wash the oyster mushrooms. Drain the excess water. Now shred or tear the Oyster mushrooms and place it on a plate. Set aside.

Heat oil in a frying pan, add the sliced onions and chillies. Sauté until onion turns translucent. Now add the chopped ginger & garlic. Sauté for a minute.

Now add the shredded oyster mushrooms. Add salt, turmeric and cumin powder. Stir well. Cover and cook in low flame for 5-6 minutes.

Uncover the lid and stir again. Cook further in low to medium flame, until the excess water of mushroom is reduced.

When the mushroom is cooked and dry, add crushed peppercorns and chopped coriander leaves. Stir well. Turn off the flame and serve. Garnish with more chopped coriander and green onions. Enjoy with a bowl of rice.
